The School of Instituting Otherwise creates conditions for critical knowledge, cultural practice, and collective study outside conventional institutional limits.
We understand learning as an act of continuity, connection, and care—not the transfer of a commodity from expert to student.
Why “instituting”?
Institutions are not only buildings or organisations. They are repeated practices: ways of gathering, naming, seeing, deciding, and sustaining. To institute otherwise is to experiment with those practices and ask what else they might make possible.
How we work
Our study groups, workshops, curricula, and conversations bring theory into contact with making, memory, archives, bodies, images, and everyday life. Facilitators guide rather than instruct. Participants bring knowledge rather than arrive empty.
What we value
Situated knowledge, intellectual generosity, political clarity, slow attention, experimentation, and the right to refuse inherited forms.
